We spent most of Mother's Day cleaning and setting

We spent most of Mother's Day cleaning and setting up furniture at Charlotte House, and Jim surprised Jack with this Renovation-style "arrangement," complete with a paint bucket "vase" he found in the utility room 😂

We've been building a foundation for our family for quite some time now. Between buying and renovating this crazy house, experiencing the birth - and loss - of children, and figuring out how to maintain our careers, mortgages, and a mild level of sanity, we've certainly had our share of ups and downs over the last few years.

Later today we'll be taking some family pictures and decided there's no better place to document what life currently looks like for us than right here at Charlotte House. This space reflects years of patience, frustration, and laughter for us, and as we get ready to officially move in over the next few weeks, every piece of furniture, rug, and light fixture that goes in makes it feel more like "us."

We know Ms. Charlotte has played an important part in the lives of a LOT of people, and it's been such a fun experience to hear from all those folks who appreciate her. We're happy to share how she's doing with all of you and hope you'll keep following along with us on our journey.

Most importantly, we are so grateful to have climbed this mountain together and created a space for our family to grow and thrive. It's almost time to settle in, enjoy our efforts, and finally call this place Home 🤗

If you read the blog this weekend (did you know we started a blog?! Link in bio for all the nitty gritty), you know Jack's been on the hunt for some sweet deals on FB marketplace & beyond.

Luckily Jim convinced Jack to let him buy a rusty old pickup a couple years ago (also on Facebook 😂), because that clunker has been put to good use over the past few days.

We managed to get most of the large pieces we were looking for, and somehow ended up finding two identical (but different color) 30-year-old swivel armchairs for sale from two different people at the same exact time. We'll take it 👍🏼

Now we just need to get through our inspection this week so we can actually move all this stuff inside 😳 Good thing we smothered the basement in mold spray and Kilz paint a few months ago so we have somewhere to keep everything in the meantime 🤷🏼

We'll share more pics when we get them inside!

These "French doors" have been one of our favorite

These "French doors" have been one of our favorite #glowup #oldhomerenovation secrets. They're actually affordable bi-fold closet doors we sourced from Amazon 🤫

They're made from lightweight pine, but we stained and poly'ed them to match the newly refinished #originalhardwoodfloors. Now they just need some knobs & handles and they'll be ready for action 🙌🏼

Elsewhere we were able to save about a dozen original doors, most of which needed to be #dippedandstripped to remove a few years of ugly latex paint.

The last pic is the popular favorite around here, which now serves as the primary bedroom door, complete with #originalhardware 🤓❤️

Working hard or hardly working? With two littles at home, another on the way, a full time job, and two houses to manage, sometimes we're not sure if we're actually making any progress or are just a couple of zombies spinning our wheels 🧟

This weekend we put address numbers on the house, which means we're one tiny step closer to the part when we get the green light to move into this joint.

Not too confident we'll be getting any sleep between now and then, but at least after that we'll have a newborn to push us into full-blown sleep deprivation psychosis 😵‍💫

At least we'll have this account to look back on to remember what the heck was going on all this time.

This view reminds us of how far we've come, how much attention Ms. Charlotte still needs, and the reasons we took on this labor of love in the first place. Can't wait to see how this vantage point changes as we fill up the house with furniture, kids, and whatever other nonsense we find ourselves getting into 😊

Color! 300 years ago when we first had some demo done in the house, we discovered these old green & black tiles in the main fireplace hearth. They had been hiding under some hideous white square tiles that were probably laid a couple of decades ago so the fraternity brothers would have an easier floor to clean.

They're not in the best shape, but Jack loved finding that sliver of green and used it as the inspiration for the color palette that you'll now find throughout the house (we're looking at you, #greenkitchen)

Hopefully we'll be able to figure out how to clean these up a bit, since the color only really pops when it's wet and looks super dusty when it dries. If you're a tile magician, tell us your secrets!
