For the record, we're going to do whatever we want and trends are junk... HOWEVER, I've been planning to paint this trim & paneling black for a while. Now that it's time to buy the paint, I'm considering something... Different?

I love a good black & white contrast, but before I go full autopilot and buy the obvious color, I wanted to take a second to zoom out and consider: is there something else to do here? Is that what I WANT to do?

I know a lot of us do the different versions of the same things over and over again in our homes & spaces, which is totally 100% super duper if that's what you like.

But don't skip the part about asking yourself if it's actually what you WANT to do. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but autopilot is a danger zone for dull & boring things, and life's too short for that.

Friends don't let friends hit autopilot.

Hope your day hopped, or something like that🐇 Photo dump of our Easter weekend (saved my favorite pic for last!)

Lots of living going on in this big old house on a holiday weekend. We dyed eggs with onion skins after we realized we didn't have enough other dye, and decorated the house with a bunch of school crafts & a poster the kids colored together

The older kids got tiny silicone-wrapped cameras in their baskets and then promptly turned into paparazzi, and everyone wore some version of an Easter hat for the egg hunt, complete with animal-cracker-stuffed eggs for kids & mimosas for the adults 🥂

Now we just need to gear up for a whole week of kids home from school 😭 😴 Send good vibes, please & thank you

I am ALL IN on frivolous upgrades that make "Ugh" stuff feel like "Ahhh" stuff. If I have to look at it every day, it might as well be cute 💅🏻

Glass bottle, wood cap, and a silicone booty to protect both the bottle and the soapstone counters... and it matches the kitchen?! What's not to love?

We use a cleaner that's made at home, so this little guy will also help us cut down on plastic and replace the old bottle that broke.

The only thing that would be better is if Jim would put the damn thing away when he's done, but I'm not fighting the tide with this one 🌊

We've been cleaning & attempting to organize the b

We've been cleaning & attempting to organize the basement, and came across the old wood paneling that used to be in what's now our kitchen.

It's been pretty decimated with staples, but we're delusional enough to hope we can use it somewhere else later and have held onto it since it was removed to open up that doorway on the left.

The kitchen island in our "Before" pic was also made from wood salvaged from the second floor, so in this room we took some old wood out and moved some other old wood back in 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are also some interior shutters down in the basement that we *think* might fit the living room windows, so keep your fingers crossed for us and we'll tackle that task when the weather gets a little warmer.

Hopefully we can get them on the windows when we roll up our sleeves for the living room makeover!

A new Costco membership, estate sale goodies from the babysitter's Grandma, and a quick stint in the local paper. Just another week of minor milestones and other nonsense at Charlotte House.
